The Indigenous people of Trinidad and Tobago

Welcome to the First Peoples Sovereign Nation of Trinidad and Tobago

The First Peoples Sovereign Nation in Trinidad and Tobago associates with diverse Indigenous groups across Trinidad and Tobago with a commitment to reconnecting with, revitalizing, and promoting their cultural heritage ad traditions. Originating from the Moruga First Peoples—a group of individuals with indigenous heritage who have lived in southern Trinidad since ancient times—our Nation represents and preserves the traditions, knowledge, and legacy of the First Peoples passed down to them by their ancestors.

Now our members hail from a variety of Indigenous backgrounds, including the Warao, Kalinago, Lokono, Carina, Kapon, Chaguanese, and Nepuyo. Led by Grand Chief H.R.M. Eric Lewis, alongside Chiefs Camillus Seballa, Chift Michael Steven, and Chieftess Nicole Nicolas, the First Peoples Sovereign Nation is dedicated to fostering preservation, cultural pride, research and advocacy for Indigenous rights throughout the Country.
